According to reports, the loco driver then turned the train around and headed back towards Balasore, delaying other trains on the way.

Digital Desk: A Memu train narrowly avoided a serious train accident on Tuesday at the Nilgiri Road railway station in the Balasore district of Odisha.

According to early reports, the train entered a loop line track where construction was taking place. Only the presence of the loco pilot, who noticed something was off and applied the brakes, is said to have prevented a tragedy.

When the loco pilot saw an error in the track terminus as the Memu train was travelling from the Bhadrak district to Balasore, he applied the brakes.

According to reports, the loco driver then turned the train around and headed back towards Balasore, delaying other trains on the way.

Passenger Bijaydhar Barik stated, "The train driver was the only one who saw a problem with the tracks. Later, the train reversed for 200 to 300 metres, at which point we exited. The train encountered some problems because it halted far from the track while travelling slowly.

Even if a tragedy was prevented, it nonetheless made the train's passengers anxious.

A serious train accident in Balasore in June shocked people all around the world. The Coromandel Express and a goods train were involved in a train catastrophe in which over 290 persons perished.

The loco pilot of the Memu train commented on the incident, saying, "The train was travelling at a speed of 7 to 8 kmph and the track was set in the wrong way due to some construction work being done... The argument might have collapsed. The tracks would have been destroyed even if there was no possibility of the train derailing.
