Digital Desk: A delegation from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by President Bhupen Borah, has taken proactive steps to confront the yearly issue of floods devastating Assam. They have submitted a memorandum to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, urging him to prioritize the matter in the upcoming Parliament session.

President Bhupen Borah emphasized the severe impact of recurrent floods in Assam, highlighting the ongoing hardships faced by residents due to frequent inundations. The memorandum pointed out the inadequate relief aid from the Centre, citing alleged shortcomings in meeting the state government's flood-related funding requests.

"The people of Assam endure catastrophic floods annually. Immediate and effective measures are imperative to mitigate this relentless crisis," Borah asserted, stressing the urgency of the situation.

The memorandum detailed the extensive devastation caused by floods, including damage to homes, crops, and essential infrastructure. It criticized the Assam government for purportedly failing to secure sufficient funds for flood management despite repeated appeals.

Borah implored Rahul Gandhi to champion Assam's cause in Parliament, urging special attention and support from the Government of India to address flood-related losses and facilitate comprehensive relief and reconstruction efforts.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is currently touring flood-affected areas in Assam, engaging with affected communities to assess the situation firsthand. Following his visit, Gandhi will proceed to Manipur's Jiribam district and continue his tour across the Northeast, advocating for robust flood management strategies and sustainable solutions to mitigate the recurring flood crisis in the region.

The APCC's proactive view underscores its commitment to advocating for the welfare of Assam's residents amidst the ongoing environmental challenges they face.
