Rahul Gandhi's visit aims to assess the ground realities and extend support to those affected by this natural disaster...

Digital Desk: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has arrived in Assam's Silchar as part of his first visit to the Northeast since assuming his new role. His visit comes amidst a backdrop of severe floods that have wreaked havoc across the state, affecting millions.

The torrential rainfall over the past days has triggered widespread flooding, landslides, and overflowing rivers, impacting approximately 22.70 lakh people in 28 districts. Rahul Gandhi's visit aims to assess the ground realities and extend support to those affected by this natural disaster. He plans to meet with local officials and flood victims to understand their immediate needs and challenges.

After his visit to Assam, Gandhi is scheduled to proceed to Manipur, a state currently grappling with significant unrest stemming from ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 3 of last year, resulting in over 200 fatalities.

In Manipur, Gandhi will visit a flood relief camp in Lakhipur and interact with displaced individuals seeking refuge there. The camp lies along his route to Manipur's Jiribam district, where he will continue his engagement with local communities.

The Congress leader's itinerary underscores his commitment to addressing both immediate humanitarian crises and longstanding issues affecting the region. His presence is expected to provide a morale boost to those affected and highlight the urgent need for coordinated relief efforts and long-term solutions.

Gandhi's visit to the Northeast is poised to shed light on the dual challenges of natural disasters and social tensions, emphasizing the importance of responsive governance and empathetic leadership in times of crisis.
