Digital Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to get started right away and will hold a roadshow today, just one day after being granted interim bail. Following his release, Kejriwal made his first public speech in which he encouraged people to "save the country from dictatorship".
Kejriwal has been given bail by the Supreme Court till June 1st to campaign in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A pivotal figure in the INDIA alliance that was established to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the elections is Arvind Kejriwal.
More than a thousand exuberant fans greeted the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party as he left Tihar Jail on Friday night. He addressed the crowd, saying, "We have to save this country from dictatorship." "I am fighting against it with all of my might."
He is scheduled to visit the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place, Delhi, and hold a roadshow in South Delhi today. Later in the day, the Chief Minister is also expected to address a press conference at the Delhi office of the Aam Aadmi Party.
The party is expected to present Kejriwal in all of its polling campaigns, with the fourth phase of voting set for May 13.
On May 25, voting will take place in New Delhi for all seven Lok Sabha seats.
As news of Kejriwal's release circulated, celebrations erupted among the INDIA bloc parties, with his AAP declaring it a "triumph of truth".
"Truth can be troubled but not defeated. The decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court is welcome. The dictatorship will end. Satyamev Jayate," AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who is also charged in the money laundering case, wrote in Hindi on X.
However, Home Minister Amit Shah tried to downplay his release.
"This is not regular bail. It is an interim bail. He can campaign but every time he goes to campaign, people will be reminded of the excise scam," he said in Raniganj of West Bengal.
Following the implementation of a proposal to liberalize the sale of liquor in 2021 and relinquish a lucrative government stake in the sector, Arvind Kejriwal and the Delhi administration faced accusations of corruption.
The following year, the policy was reversed, but not before an investigation into the purportedly dishonest licensing process resulted in the incarceration of two prominent Kejriwal loyalists.
