Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM, criticized the Assam government's efforts to combat underage marriage...

Digital Desk: Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the Assam government on Saturday for its actions to eradicate child marriage in the region and questioned who would look after the spouses of those who had been detained as part of the operation.

The Hyderabad MP also charged that the Himanta Biswa Sarma administration had granted lands to individuals in upper Assam but not in "bottom Assam."

Additionally, he noted that the BJP has ruled Assam for six years and questioned why no action had been taken up until this point.

Owaisi also questioned the Himanta Biswa-led government on the number of schools it has built. "Why aren't new schools being built?" said the AIMIM chief.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma began a significant crackdown on child marriage in the state, arresting over 2,000 persons and filing 4,004 cases so far. The police stated they have a list of 8,000 suspects and that the investigation will continue.

Meanwhile, a large group of women protested against the arrests of their husbands and sons, claiming that they have no other means of support. The women expressed concern about how they and their children would survive if their husbands and sons were arrested.
