To qualify for the final, the Indian team won two impressive victories against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4s to book their ticket to the final. Bangladesh has already been knocked out, leaving Pakistan and Sri Lanka as the remaining two contenders. It's been an intriguing journey for teams in the Asia Cup, with rain hampering their preliminary plans. But what if Pakistan's Super 4 match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan also gets washed out?
Is there a reserve day in place?
For the India vs. Pakistan Super 4 match, the Asian Cricket Council had set up a reserve day, but there is no such arrangement in place for the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan match. In a 20-over-per-side play on Thursday, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to find a winner.
What happens if rain washes out the play?
Rain has already impacted several matches in the Asia Cup 2023, and it very well may do so again during the Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka Super 4 match on Thursday in Colombo.
It should be noted that in case of a complete washout, it would be the Sri Lankan team that goes through to the final because of a better net run rate in comparison to Pakistan.
Despite having the same number of points (2) as Pakistan, Sri Lanka is now ranked second in the Super 4 points list. Each of the teams had one victory and one loss. However, Pakistan's results are so significant that they are currently ranked third with a lower net run rate than their Super 4 opponents.
Pakistan's NRR is -1.892, while Sri Lanka's is -0.200. Pakistan must therefore play today because defeating the Lankans is their sole chance to qualify for the final.
Additionally, it should be mentioned that never in the history of the Asia Cup has there been a final between India and Pakistan, probably the two toughest rivals in the game.
India qualified for the final game and will try to make it seven Asia Cup titles overall (in ODI format) with their outstanding performance in the Super 4 stage. Pakistan has won the tournament twice, while Sri Lanka has five victories in the 50-over format.
