India won the competition when the men's final was cancelled due to weather, making history by winning the gold medal in cricket...

Digital Desk: Owing to stronger T20 rankings after the final against Afghanistan was postponed on Saturday owing to rain, India took home the gold medal in the men's cricket competition at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou.

When the game was called off due to rain at 112 for five after 18.2 overs of the first innings, Afghanistan, who is rated 10th in the ICC's T20 rankings, was left with the silver and helpless to do anything.

India won the competition making history by winning the gold medal in cricket at the Asian Games.

Cricket has previously been played at two Asian Games (2010, 2014), however, India has elected to skip both. In the meantime, Afghanistan earned their third consecutive Asian Games silver medal in men's cricket.

Earlier in the day, the Indian women's cricket team won gold in the T20 tournament in Hangzhou. In Saturday's match at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, India's decision to bowl first paid off, as Afghanistan were reduced to 12/3 in the fourth over. Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh dismissed both Afghanistan openers in consecutive overs before Noor Ali Zadran was run out.
