On directives from the district administration, a team from the Food and Safety Department has arrived at NIT...

Digital Desk: As many as 50 students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar fell ill due to suspected food poisoning out of which 9 students are currently admitted to hospital. 

According to early reports, NIT Silchar students would often eat momos from a fast food shop outside the campus. On November 13, after consuming the momos, around 50 students fell ill after eating the momos. 

When they realized they were sick, some students were admitted to the hospital on the NIT campus, while others went to a Silchar private hospital. When the NIT authorities learned about the incident, they informed the Cachar district administration.

On directives from the district administration, a team from the Food and Safety Department has arrived at NIT. 

The group has begun looking into the food poisoning issue. The FAST FOOD shops in front of the NIT campus have already collected food samples for the inquiry team.

Meanwhile, the incident has created a lot of sensation in NIT. According to KL Vaishnav, the registrar of Silchar NIT, several NIT students are currently receiving treatment for food illness.
