Digital Desk: On Friday night, officers from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) seized about Rs 2 crores of unreported cash from the residence of Dhubri Zila Parishad CEO Biswajit Goswami.

Goswami was detained for reportedly seeking a bribe and collecting it through his aide.

The vigilance cell recovered Rs 2,32,85,300 (two crores thirty-two lakhs eighty-five thousand and three hundred) after searching his wife's residence in Bongaigaon.

Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, Goswami's assistant, was detained previously for receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000 from two Zila Parishad members in exchange for authorising development projects under government schemes.

Sarkar was arrested after revealing CEO Goswami's participation in the alleged corruption case during interrogation.

Reportedly, DVAC deployed a trap to catch the accused officials after receiving a tip-off.

Assam CM tweeted, "Well done! The Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Vigilance has successfully carried out a sustained anti-corruption drive."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the vigilance cell's efforts to root out corruption in the administration.
