Assam DGP disclosed that heightened surveillance measures were implemented within the jail premises due to suspicions of illicit activities...

Digital Desk: In a significant development, the Assam Police has exposed a significant communication network operating from within Dibrugarh Jail, allegedly run by the detained pro-Khalistan leader, Amritpal Singh. Singh, arrested in April 2023, faces accusations of unauthorized activities and maintaining ties with external elements, particularly the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Intelligence reports highlight Singh's alleged involvement in arming the Anandpur Khalsa Fauj (AKF), a private militia. Despite his incarceration, Singh is suspected to have continued his operations, prompting a coordinated effort by state and central authorities to dismantle his network.

Assam's Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, disclosed that heightened surveillance measures were implemented within the jail premises due to suspicions of illicit activities. Subsequent searches uncovered a range of unauthorized devices, including smartphones, keypad phones, and spy-cam pens.

Amritpal Singh's radical pro-Khalistan stance and leadership in the "Heirs of Punjab" movement have fueled concerns. Born on January 17, 1993, his return to Punjab in September 2022 marked the beginning of a controversial role in advocating for Khalistan.

The discovery of this clandestine communication network inside Dibrugarh Jail underscores the challenges authorities face in combating terrorism within correctional facilities.

Ongoing investigations aim to determine the network's extent and its source of support. Stringent measures are being implemented to prevent any recurrence of such activities, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining security within correctional institutions in the fight against terrorism.
