Guwahati: The 16th Assam Legislative Assembly formally launched five crucial elected committees on Thursday, a move aimed at bolstering legislative oversight and public accountability. The joint inaugural meeting, held at the Central Hall of the Assam Legislative Assembly, was presided over by Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
These vital bodies, constituted during the recently concluded Budget Session, include the Committee on Public Accounts, the Committee on Public Undertakings, the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the Committee on Welfare of Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes, and Most Other Backward Classes, and the Committee on Estimates. Each committee has been assigned a tenure of 30 months to carry out its responsibilities.
Addressing the newly appointed chairpersons and members, Speaker Dass underscored the imperative of discharging duties with utmost commitment and accountability. He urged them to actively contribute towards fulfilling the aspirations of the state's populace, highlighting the pivotal role these committees play in driving Assam's overall development trajectory.
The Speaker expressed strong optimism that the committees would diligently work towards their objectives, thereby strengthening democratic processes and ensuring effective governance. Earlier, Assembly Secretary Rajiv Bhattacharyya extended a warm welcome to all attendees, setting the stage for the committees' operational phase.
