Nalbari district continues to grapple with a troubling spate of cattle thefts, a perennial concern for its agricultural populace. The latest incident, reported from Bagmara village under the Ghagrapar police station, has further heightened anxieties among local farmers and livestock owners.
According to reports, a cow belonging to Bhupen Das, son of the late Samin Das, was allegedly stolen on Wednesday night. Perpetrators reportedly broke open the lock of a cowshed in Bagmara village to carry out the theft. The stolen animal is estimated to be valued at approximately Rs 45,000, representing a significant loss for the family.
Following the incident, the family promptly lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Ghagrapar police station. While an investigation has been initiated by the police, the individuals responsible for the theft have yet to be identified or apprehended. Local residents have voiced their profound concern, highlighting that cattle theft has become a recurring issue across several areas within the Ghagrapar police station's jurisdiction.
Villages such as Latima, Bilpar, Jawjawkuchi, Barajol, Bhithamahal, and Palangdi have all witnessed similar incidents recently, underscoring the widespread nature of the problem. The continuous targeting of livestock, a vital asset for many rural families, points to an urgent need for more robust security measures and intensified police efforts to safeguard the livelihoods of Nalbari's farming community.
