Guwahati: In the ongoing Assam by-poll, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunction was reported at Bortari 66 polling center in Baksar Shalbari in Bhabanipur constituency.
The EVM glitch occurred after 72 voters cast their vote. Tensed situation prevailed among the voters.
In the Bhabanipur constituency, nine candidates’ luck is in the fray of which Phani Talukdar is competing from BJP, Shailendra Nath Das from Congress, Zubbar Ali competing from AIUDF and the remaining six candidates is contesting independently.

Notably, the fight for the Bhabanipur constituency will happen between Talukdar and his former party AIUDF.
As per the Election Commission of India, 7, 96,456 general electors will exercise their right to franchise, of which 4, 03,374 are males; 3, 93,078 are females and 4 are transgender. Apart from these, there are also 3,165 service voters. 8, 864 electors are above 80 years of age and 4, 998 fall under the PwD category.

The constituency with the highest number of electors out of five constituencies is Tamulpur LAC, with 2, 17,432 electors. The constituency having the lowest number of electors is Thowra LAC having 1, 15,971 electors.
The voting process for the by-elections began at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.
A total of 5,410 polling personnel have been engaged and a total of 1, 869 Ballot Units (BUs); 1, 844 Control Units (CUs) and 1, 861 VVPATs have been used in the ongoing high-voltage assembly by-poll.
Today’s elections will decide the fate of 31 candidates, of which the results will be declared in November.
