Four new members of Assam's cabinet were sworn in on Saturday...

Digital Desk: Four new members of Assam's cabinet were sworn in on Saturday during a ceremony at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath in front of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Among the new ministers are Krishnendu Paul from Patharkandi, Kaushik Rai from Lakhipur, Prasanta Phukan from Dibrugarh, and Rupesh Goala from Doomdooma. The government goes a long way in ensuring regional representation, with two of the new ministers coming from Southern Assam.

CM Sarma announced during the event that there would shortly be a reshuffle in which some portfolios would be handed over to these new members. He urged the Cabinet to further improve upon government and commit to the welfare of the masses.

In the recently held by-elections, in which the BJP-led NDA has clinched in five constituencies, the reorganization now takes place. Sanjoy Kishan has also tendered resignations from the ministerial position of Minister of Welfare of Tea Tribes and Labour & Employment, annulling their appointment just to make this strategic cabinet restructuring possible.

With the 2026 Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Sarma promised that governance would be inclusive, stating that "serving with equal opportunity each and every community and region in Assam is our top priority.".
