Digital Desk: Minister Pijush Hazarika announced substantial advancements on May 19 that will result in considerable changes in administrative duties and infrastructure upgrades. The Minister stated in a cabinet briefing that the state cabinet has approved these revolutionary steps aimed at improving governance and alleviating traffic issues in Guwahati.
Furthermore, One of the cabinet's most notable choices was to rename the position of Deputy Commissioner (DC) to District Commissioner (DC). Minister Hazarika stressed that the acronym 'DC' will remain unchanged, but the term will now reflect the position's enlarged responsibilities.
Additionally, this modification gives DCs the authority to transfer both gazetted and non-gazetted officers within their districts, including those in the 4th and 3rd grades. However, authorisation from the appropriate guardian minister is required for the transfer of gazetted officers.
Moreover, the Divisional Commissioner's statutory functions will now be transferred to the Principal Secretary of the General Administrative Department. The goal of this reallocation is to streamline administrative processes and promote effective governance.

The government has authorised an ambitious plan to revamp the city's transportation system, which is a huge development for Guwahati citizens. During a Jorhat Cabinet meeting, it was resolved to build a 4-lane flyover covering approximately 4.5 kilometres from Noonmati to Handique College. The project's tender procedure has already commenced, with a cost estimate of Rs. 852.86 crore.
To be more specific, this flyover will be the country's second-longest of its kind, considerably reducing traffic congestion. The flyover would connect inhabitants, particularly those travelling to Rajgarh, from the Guwahati Reserve Bank to Noonmati FCI Godown.
Notably, it would be Guwahati's second 4-lane flyover, with the first now under construction in Maligaon.
