Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that schemes such as the 'Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana' helped the farmers of the state during the floods.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Natural Farming Conclave on Friday at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati, the Assam CM said that the scheme has helped farmers protect themselves during floods.

It should be noted that financial support totaling Rs 236 crore was granted to over 3 lakh farmers in the state during the last three seasons through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Yojana.

"Central and state governments provided the premium free of cost because only Rs 100 is taken as interest from the farmers. This is an important step in giving farmers financial security," CM Sarma said.

"In the last three seasons, under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, we have settled claims worth Rs 236.6 crores from 3.24 lakh farmers. This is an important step towards giving our farmers financial assurance," CM Sarma added.

CM Sarma further stated that the state government will provide a Rs 5 per litre incentive to farmers who sell their milk through cooperative societies.

The Assam CM also praised the agriculture department for organizing the conclave. He added that natural farming should become a Jan Andolan and Assam should become a leader in this sector because it is a path to wealth and health.

It should be mentioned that Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat inaugurated the conclave by lighting the ceremonial lamp and also addressed the conclave.
