Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Sunday, urging for an expanded railway network in Assam to enhance connectivity across the state.
During the 25-minute meeting at the Railway Minister’s official residence, Chief Minister Sarma proposed the introduction of three new Amrit Bharat trains to and from Assam. He also suggested establishing of a new rail link between the picturesque Umrangso town in Dima Hasao district and Lanka in Hojai district.
Additionally, CM Sarma urged for the swift completion of the Kokrajhar-Gelephu Mindfulness City railway line, a project aimed at boosting cross-border connectivity in Bhutan.
He also appealed for increasing train stoppages at key stations across Assam to benefit local travellers.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction, stating that the Railway Minister had 'kindly consented' to the proposals, which include introducing the new Amrit Bharat trains, initiating the Umrangso-Lanka rail link, expediting work on the Kokrajhar-Gelephu line, and adding more train stoppages in the state.
The Railway Minister responded positively, assuring that the ministry would take steps to implement the suggested measures.
Later, Chief Minister Sarma shared on X, "Had a very productive meeting with Hon’ble Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji this morning. We deliberated on key issues to expand railway's footprint in Assam to enhance overall connectivity for our people. Happy to share that the Hon’ble Minister has kindly consented to these action items."
