Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, June 8, officially unveiled the distribution of portfolios among the newly formed Council of Ministers. This crucial announcement came after receiving the necessary approval from the Governor of Assam, formalising the structure of the state's executive body.
Chief Minister Sarma has opted to retain control over a suite of vital departments, underscoring his direct oversight on key administrative areas. These include the Home & Political Department, Public Works Department (Buildings & National Highways), Public Works Department (Roads), Power, Information & Public Relations, and Printing & Stationery. Additionally, all departments not specifically allocated to other ministers will also fall under his purview.
Among the other significant appointments, Ashwini Ray Sarkar has been entrusted with the responsibilities of Social Justice & Empowerment, Soil Conservation, and Welfare of Minorities & Development. Ashok Singhal will continue to lead the crucial Health & Family Welfare along with Medical Education & Research departments, ensuring continuity in the state’s health sector initiatives. Bimal Borah has been assigned the Culture department, indicating a focus on the state's rich heritage.
The allocation of these portfolios sets the stage for the new Council of Ministers to commence their duties, focusing on the state's developmental agenda and administrative priorities across various sectors.
