To avoid any unfortunate incidents or hostility on the part of the encroachers, over 3000 armed soldiers have been stationed at the location.

Digital Desk: On March 1, Kamrup (M) DC received a directive from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to relocate hotels and educational institutions from Silsako Beel, where a massive eviction drive is taking place.

On March 1, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "I have asked the DC, Kamrup (Metro) to take steps to promptly remove institutions like Hotel Zinger, OKD Institutions of Social Change, etc. from Silsako.

We must keep in mind that wetlands are a natural response to the challenge of climate change, said Sarma.

According to CM Sarma, who was speaking to the media, the government would not spare anyone, and any land that has been encroached upon will be cleared, regardless of who is responsible.

Authorities reportedly intend to remove encroachment from the land at the Silsako Beel in Guwahati as the eviction effort enters its third day. The land is purportedly owned by Ajmal.

Intending to make Guwahati flood-free and provide benefits to at least 15 lakh city inhabitants, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) launched an eviction drive on February 27.

To avoid any unfortunate incidents or hostility on the part of the encroachers, over 3000 armed soldiers have been stationed at the location.

Around 1800 bighas of land are located in Silsako Beel, of which 1200 bighas are under the authority of encroachers. On February 27, people who were living within 100 metres of the water canals on the area's edge up to Narengi were forced to leave.
