Digital Desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday laid the foundation stone for many projects and officially opened projects worth Rs. 894 crores in Majuli district as part of the ongoing "A Fortnight for Development" by the Assam government.

"Majuli is known as the spiritual centre of the country and it will be developed commercially," CM Sarma stated in his speech to the public assembly on the largest river island in Asia.

The following are the cornerstones that CM Sarma laid:

• Majuli Cultural University's main campus; cost: Rs. 51 crores
• upgrading the ITI in Bangaon , value Rs. 5 crores.

• Central Mid-Day Meal kitchen (Rs. 14 crores) in collaboration with Akshaya Patra Foundation

• Ring bund around the Brahmaputra from Jabarchuk to Haldhibari; Cost: Rs. 29 crores; 

• The projected office of the Assam Police Radio Organization will be reached via six roads being built at Rs. 19 crores: Pohardia-Alimur, Adi Elengi-Pohumara, Tekelifuta-Patia Tin Ali, Bhakat Chapari-Jamuguri Tin Ali, Bahguri-Moharichuk, and Garhmur Okhalchuk.

• A number of 33x11KV power sub-stations.


The following projects were also inaugurated by CM Sarma:

• Construction of the Majuli Kamalabari Ghat, the Tribal Theme Village, and the Jengraimukh & Chamguri Satra structures; cost: Rs. 60 crores (Swadesh Darshan Scheme)

• Karatipar Multipurpose Flood Shelter (Rs 2.51 crores ) (ASDMA)

• Road from Phuloni to Oflamukh Ghat via Bongaon; $19.95 crores (NABARD & SOPD-G)

"We shall endeavour to bring Assam to the highest height of development. People of Assam have now stopped thinking negatively. If you put an end to Dharna-Andolans, Assam will advance considerably," CM Sarma stated.
