Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced a detailed, phased roadmap for flood recovery in Upper Assam, signaling a pivotal shift from rescue operations to comprehensive rehabilitation efforts. The Chief Minister's plan encompasses various critical areas, including facilitating insurance claims, providing financial assistance, restoring educational institutions, and repairing damaged infrastructure.
Addressing a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring timely settlement of insurance claims for flood victims. He stated that a crucial meeting would be held on August 5 with insurance companies to expedite claims related to damaged vehicles, livestock, and other insured assets. This initiative aims to alleviate the significant financial burden faced by individuals whose property sustained damage during the recent inundation.
Furthering relief measures for those impacted, the Chief Minister confirmed that discussions are slated for August 5 with Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs). The objective is to extend a similar six-month moratorium on loan repayments, mirroring the relief already announced for bank loan borrowers on July 30. This move seeks to provide much-needed financial respite to a broader segment of the flood-affected population.
