Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma states that Assam has collected around Rs. 7.44 Cr from those who have violated Covid norms and guidelines, as penality in 2020, on Monday.

In a signed response to an inquiry by Congress MLA Nurul Huda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated the fine amount attained at Rs 7,44,38,100 the previous year.

The most eminent amount of Rs 4.44 crore was obtained from people not carrying masks, while Rs 2.15 crore was paid as a fine by those with pillion riders in motorcycles, he stated.

The Assam government had charged Rs 500 as a penalty for not wearing masks and riding pillion in motorcycles. For second-time violators, the amount was Rs 1,000.

Sarma added that the complete sum has been deposited at the treasury under the ‘Taxes on Vehicle’ section.
