Armed cadres allegedly affiliated with the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) shot and killed Priya Basumatary, a class 10 student, in front of a camera.

Digital Desk: In a significant move, the Chirang District Sessions Judge rendered the final decision in the murder case of Priya Basumatary, who was brutally assassinated in Chirang district on August 20, 2014, at Laimuti, near the border with Bhutan. After a protracted legal battle, the court found all nine of the accused parties not guilty.

Armed cadres allegedly affiliated with the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) shot and killed Priya Basumatary, a class 10 student, in front of a camera. There were suspicions that Basumatary was a police informant at the time of the murder.

In the Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar, one of the main defendants in the case, Jornelush Narzary, also known as Jangkla, was killed by Assam Police and security forces once before. In addition to being charged with other offenses, including the theft of weapons from security guards, Jangkla, the platoon leader of the group's Nalbari district unit, was also connected to the murder of Basumatary.

There is still a battle between militant organizations and security authorities, as evidenced by the shocking death of Priya Basumatary. In addition to being violently attacked, Basumatary's parents were also forcibly removed from their homes, beaten, and eventually murdered.

After Jangkla was killed, the hunt for additional NDFB-S members grew more intense. At least five militants were successfully captured in the districts of Chirang and Kokrajhar by Assam Police and troops from the Army's Red Horns Division. Among those detained was Sansuma Brahma, also referred to as B Susrwn, who was recognized as a part of the group's 35th group of fighters with training from Myanmar.
