Digital Desk: Assam police confiscated fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs 29.31 lakh and detained a suspect in Assam's Nagaon district on Friday.

Following a tip-off on Friday night, a team from Rupahihat police station carried out an operation in the Rupahihat Kalisthan area, the police said.

"During the search, we recovered a bag in the person's possession and discovered fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs 29.31 lakh in the bag. A printing machine of FICN was also recovered from the house during the search," stated Sanjit Kumar Roy, Officer-in-Charge of Rupahihat PS.

The arrested person has been identified as Rakibul Islam from 2 No. Borghuli in the Laokhowa area of Assam.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed at the Rupahihat police station, the police said.

Earlier this year, Assam police detained one person and recovered fake currency notes worth Rs 5.65 lakh.

The accused was identified by officials as Jogen Nath alias Madhab Nath. According to an official statement, the operation was launched by a team of police from the Sonitpur district based on information obtained from sources.

"Police recovered a large number of high-quality fake Indian currency notes during the search. The offender was found with 239 and 175 Indian rupee notes worth Rs 2000 and Rs 500, respectively. The counterfeit notes that were seized are worth Rs 5.65 lakh," said Borah.

"We conducted the operation based on reliable information and detained Jogen Nath alias Madhab Nath from the Beseria Pukhuria area," he added.
