The directive mandates a halt to all operations of departmental and private boats or vessels involved in ferry services within the district during the specified period.

Digital Desk: In light of Cyclone Remal, authorities in Assam's Kamrup district have taken proactive measures to ensure public safety. All ferry services and fishing activities on the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries are suspended from May 27 to May 28, 2024, as directed by the Kamrup District Disaster Management Authority. This suspension aims to mitigate potential risks posed by anticipated strong winds and heavy rainfall associated with the cyclone.

The directive mandates a halt to all operations of departmental and private boats or vessels involved in ferry services within the district during the specified period. Additionally, fishing activities in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are prohibited to minimize potential hazards to the public.

However, certain exceptions to the suspension are permitted, including essential services, relief and rescue operations, and boats engaged in transporting construction materials and labor for the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge project.

The decision to suspend these activities aligns with the information provided in National Bulletin No. 14 (BOB/01/2024), which highlights the development of Cyclone Remal over the east-central Bay of Bengal. As the cyclone moves northward, it is anticipated to bring significant weather disturbances to Kamrup district and the broader Assam region.

This precautionary suspension is intended to preemptively safeguard against potential loss of life and property resulting from the severe weather conditions forecasted by meteorological authorities.
