Guwahati: Assam's Mixed Martial Art fighter Alfred Faihriem won gold medal in his national debut in the Fly Weight Division of Youth Category at the MMA INDIA's Open National Championship.

The competition was held recently in Indore. Alfred represented United Assam Mixed Martial Arts Association (UAMMAA) in the championship.

Alfred's astonishing performance in the national debut made him qualify for the IMMAF World Championship team, which is programmed to be held in Kazakhstan in November.

The North East India Mixed Martial Arts Association (NEIMA) congratulates all the Northeast region players through their social media platform.

The association wrote, "Congrats to all the fighters from NorthEast India - Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura. Special congrats to Zarrmawia for being selected to represent India at the upcoming world championship. Here are the medal winners: Zarmawia, Mizoram - gold medal in amateur MMA, Joseph Vanlalhruaia, Mizoram - bronze in amateur MMA, and Alfred Z Faihriem, Assam - gold medal in youth MMA."

As per sources, seven fighters from Tripura, two from Meghalaya, and four fighters from Assam participated in the championship.

MMA India Federation organized the Indian Open MMA championship in Indore from September 10 to September 12, 2021. The event has served as the selection trial for the IMMAF World Championship in Kazakhstan.
