Digital Desk: On Wednesday, a major fire broke out at the Jamuna Road Chariali in Assam's Sivasagar, which led to a child's death and left her mother with burn injuries.

The incident occurred while an excavator was digging a drain, and a fire broke out in a gas pipe. The driver of the excavator fled the scene after leaving the equipment, causing the fire to spread quickly. The tragedy wreaked havoc and damage in the surrounding area.

Two adjoining houses were destroyed by fire, and a woman and her child suffered burn injuries. The injured were evacuated to Dibrugarh's Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH). It was, however, too late, and the kid could not be saved.

Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased child remains critically unwell.

It should be noted that fire departments were promptly deployed to the location and are working vehemently to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown.
