Digital Desk: The flood situation in Assam has worsened, with over 28,000 people affected by the deluge in three districts of the state due to heavy rainfall, an official bulletin said.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority's (ASDMA) daily flood report, more than 28,800 people have been affected by floods in the districts of Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, and Lakhimpur.

Lakhimpur is the most severely hit, with over 23,500 people affected, followed by Dibrugarh with over 3,800 people and Dhemaji with nearly 1,500 people, the report stated.

Till Wednesday, around 21,000 people had been affected by floods in two districts of Assam. The administration has set up three relief distribution centres in the Lakhimpur district, but no relief camp has been started as of yet. According to ASDMA, 25 villages are currently underwater, and 215.57 hectares of cropland have been damaged across Assam.

Massive erosion took place in the districts of Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Sonitpur, and Udalguri. Landslides caused by severe rains were reported in a few locations in the Cachar and Kamrup metropolitan areas, the ASDMA said.

According to reports, floodwaters have damaged embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in the districts of Lakhimpur, Goalpara, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Baksa, Dima Hasao, and Karimganj.

As of now, no river in Assam is flowing above the danger level, it added. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati predicted significant rains over the Northeastern area over the next five days on Wednesday.

For three days, the RMC issued an 'Orange Alert,' followed by a 'Yellow Alert' for the next two days. 'Yellow Alert' means to keep an eye on things and stay up-to-date, while 'Orange Alert" means to be ready for action.
