The arrest took place at a house in the city's Narikal Basti neighbourhood, where the fraudster had been hiding.
Jayanta Das, renowned for his participation in duping businesspeople from outside the state, is accused of being responsible for astonishing plunder totalling crores of rupees by trapping businessmen from outside the state.
Jayanta Das is also accused of forging invoices in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council's name.
The smart fraudster had hidden himself in a box inside a building, leading to an extensive search that ended with the arrest.
