An official notice announcing the decision to call off the elections cited concerns...

Digital Desk: The Gauhati Commerce College's much-awaited elections have been abruptly canceled, the officials announced on Thursday.

An official notice announcing the decision to call off the elections cited concerns about maintaining the college's academic environment and ensuring a positive learning environment. As a result, it was declared that the entire election process stands null and void.

The notice from college officials read, "As reported by the Returning Officer, it appears that the smooth conduct of the ensuing GCCSU 2023-24 Election scheduled on 9th of October, 2023 will not be feasible, as it might vitiate the academic atmosphere of the college."

This decision comes after Gauhati Commerce College students aged a protest over upcoming student elections within their institution. The main issue that led to the protest, which took place on Tuesday, October 3, was the difficulties and anomalies that were experienced throughout the candidate selection process.

The notice further added, "All HS & B.Com Examinations (Unit Test & Sessional) would be held as per the specified timetable starting on October 9, 2023."
