Guwahati: On Wednesday, the Assam government, through a press release, declared a half-holiday on August 20 on account of Muharram.

The decision came for the state as per the office memorandum of the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India, and on decision received from the State Hilal Committee, Assam in this regard.

Most of the states around the country have withdrawn procession, under Covid 19 guidelines.

In regard, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued all the officials to withdraw all religious procession in the state amid Covid 19.

The Delhi government shifted the holiday from August 19, 2021, to August 20, 2021, in the account of Muharram. 

As a result, Delhi will observe a complete holiday for Muharram, and Assam will follow a half-holiday.
