Digital Desk: The Assam government has undertaken a significant decision to conduct a comprehensive socio-economic assessment of the indigenous minorities in the state. The decision was formalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The focus of this assessment will be on the indigenous Assamese Muslims, with the Directorate of Minority Affairs and Char Areas entrusted with the responsibility to carry out the evaluation. In conjunction with this initiative, the Directorate of Char Areas has been rechristened as the Directorate of Minority Affairs & Char Areas, Assam.

Moreover, in today's cabinet meeting, steps were taken to address the humane treatment of animals in traditional events. Specifically, the government has approved the formulation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at regulating traditional bull fights. These SOPs are intended to ensure the well-being of the animals involved, particularly during events like the Magh Bihu at Ahatguri in Morigaon district and Nagaon district, as well as other parts of Assam.

The SOPs aim to prevent any form of deliberate cruelty or mistreatment of animals during the annual Moh Juj festival, prioritizing their care and welfare throughout these traditional events. This decision underscores the government's commitment to upholding cultural practices while safeguarding animal welfare.
