Digital Desk: The Assam government has announced its decision to conduct a comprehensive socio-economic survey of the state's five indigenous Muslim communities. The move, aimed at promoting their upliftment, was confirmed during a meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the state secretariat on Tuesday.

"In a meeting held at Janata Bhawan, HCM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the officials concerned to carry out a socio-economic assessment of Assam’s Indigenous Muslim communities (Goria, Moria, Deshi, Syed & Jolha). These findings of which will guide the Government to take suitable measures aimed at the comprehensive socio-political and educational upliftment of the State’s indigenous minorities," stated the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in a tweet.

The findings of this survey will play a pivotal role in guiding the state government's efforts to implement suitable measures for the comprehensive socio-political and educational upliftment of these indigenous minorities.

This initiative comes shortly after the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar released the results of a long-awaited caste survey, revealing that OBCs and EBCs constitute 63 percent of the state's total population. The Assam government's move reflects a commitment to addressing the socio-economic disparities faced by indigenous Muslim communities in the state.
