  • Assam Governor Amar Lakshman Prasad Acharya paid heartfelt homage to the state's fallen heroes at a Swaheed Shraddhanjali ceremony in Guwahati, honouring their ultimate sacrifice for the nation

Guwahati witnessed a poignant ceremony on Sunday as Assam Governor Amar Lakshman Prasad Acharya led heartfelt tributes to the state's martyrs at a 'Swaheed Shraddhanjali' event. Organised by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, the solemn gathering aimed to honour the brave sons and daughters of Assam who laid down their lives in dedicated service to the nation.

The War Memorial served as the focal point for the tributes, with senior government officials, serving and retired members of the armed forces, ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and the families of the martyrs all participating to pay their respects at the memorial.

Addressing the attendees, Governor Acharya underscored the profound sacrifices made by these heroes. He reiterated the nation's unwavering gratitude towards them and their families, acknowledging the immense debt owed for their ultimate sacrifice. “They made the supreme sacrifice,” the Governor remarked, “and we owe them and their families an enduring debt of gratitude. We gather here at the War Memorial to pay our respects, salute their courage, and express our deepest appreciation for their service.”

Such commemorative events are regularly organised by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare to ensure the contributions and sacrifices of both serving and retired defence personnel are perpetually remembered and honoured across the state.
