Digital Desk: An Assam businessman from the district of Hailakandi, Niti Ranjan Pal tragically lost his life during the Maha Kumbh stampede incident on January 28. The Assam government has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the grieving family of Pal.


Amid the heartbreaking loss, the Assam government expressed its deepest condolences and assured all possible support to the victim's family. The Assam govt is constantly in connection with the Maha Kumbh authorities to bring the mortal remains back home.


Deceased Niti Ranjan Pal was a prominent businessman from Hailakandi who ran a popular sweet shop "Om Sweets". Pal had been visiting Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj to participate in the sacred bathing ritual at the Triveni Sangam ghat. The 69-year-old businessman was among the 30 people who died during the unfortunate incident. Nearly 60 others were also injured due to the incident and immediately rushed to the nearest hospital.


The Maha Kumbh stampede accident took place between 1 to 2 am on Wednesday as several people climbed over the barricades, and people fell on each other at Akhara Marg.


Niti Ranjan Pal was severely injured during the stampede incident. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries later. The tragedy has left everyone heartbroken including his family members and business community in Hailakandi.
