Digital Desk: Assam is recognised to be home to approximately 200 ethnic tribes and cultures. On December 11, the Assam Government held the inaugural meeting of the General Advisory Committee (GAC) for the cultural mapping of Assam ethnic Art and culture, intending to document the rich kaleidoscope of cultural traditions and heritage of each of the state's ethnic communities at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, by the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Society.

The government highlighted the need to pay focus to the smallest details as well as the economic aspects of the data collection process for cultural mapping.

Furthermore, the govt hailed the significant participation of committee officials, incorporating their valuable suggestions in the creation of a complete district-by-district cultural map.

The gathering was presided over by state cabinet minister Bimal Borah and attended by notable dignitaries from the state's cultural area.

The decision to create a cultural map of each of Assam's indigenous tribes and communities is to serve as a complete and systematic documentation of each of our varied ethnic groups' rich cultural traditions, legacy, and history.
