The Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024, which was presented to the Assembly on February 7, 2024, embodies this action.

Digital Desk: The Assam administration has taken steps to unite the secondary school system in the state as part of a major educational reform.

Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), which oversees the examinations for Class 12, and the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), which administers the High School Leaving Examination (HSLC) for Class 10, are planning to combine into one organization.

The Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024, which was presented to the Assembly on February 7, 2024, embodies this action.

The need to better manage, govern, and advance secondary education in Assam led to the decision to combine these two boards into the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).

A government-nominated chairman will lead the new board, with vice-chairmen in charge of each section.

Twenty-one members of the ASSEB will be appointed to three-year terms, with the option to be renewed for an additional year.

The government shall designate a chairperson to lead the ASSEB. Under the chairman, a vice chairman will oversee each division; the government will designate this person.

In the Statement of Object and Reasons of the Bill, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated, "The objective is to introduce the Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024 to develop, regulate and supervise the standards and quality in school education in the state of Assam."
