His announcement comes after chaos in the state assembly, as opposition parties raised serious concerns over the dismissal of contractual teachers.

Digital Desk: Education Minister Ranuj Pegu confirmed on Wednesday that 73 contractual teaching faculty members employed by the Assam Government in the state's polytechnics and engineering institutes were released from their jobs on March 11.

In a press conference, Minister Pegu said, "We have released 73 contractual lecturers on Tuesday. They were recruited as part-time faculty members and were always aware that their jobs were not permanent."

He added, "The Assam government has no provision to convert part-time employment into regular employment."

His announcement comes after chaos in the state assembly, as opposition parties raised serious concerns over the dismissal of contractual teachers.

Minister Pegu informed that the government has conducted two examinations to regularise faculty appointments, and another examination is ongoing. He requested the released faculties to participate in these exams for the regularisation of their jobs.

Referring to a legal battle related to the released faculties, the Education Minister said that the teachers approached the High Court earlier, and the court had issued an order in their favour.

However, the court has lifted the stay order, which resulted in their release from their positions.
