Assam cabinet has approved a 5% reservation for students attending government schools in engineering and medical seats...

Digital Desk: In an effort to promote girls' education and competitiveness among students, the Assam government decided to distribute scooters to meritorious students.

As part of the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme, scooters will be distributed to girls who receive first division and males who receive 75% or more in the 2023 HSSLC exam. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting in Guwahati, which was taken over by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

For Rs 269 crore, 35,770 scooters will be distributed to 30,203 girls and 5,567 boys.

Additionally, the Assam cabinet has approved a 5% reservation for students attending government schools in engineering and medical seats.

"The Assam government is making efforts to raise the standard of instruction in public schools. Government school students from Class 7 to Class 12 will now be eligible for a 5% reservation in seats for medical seats," says Sarma.

He further stated that these enhancements in education will benefit students studying under the SEBA board from classes 7 to 10.

The government also approved a 20% bonus for tea workers in preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja. The cabinet has implemented a 3% reservation for Adivasi and tea workers communities in government posts-old to strengthen the two communities.
