Assam has officially launched the 'Shiksha Yatra: From Challenges to Aspirations' initiative, a significant statewide endeavour aimed at identifying and reintegrating out-of-school children into the formal education system. State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu inaugurated the programme in Guwahati on Friday, marking the commencement of preparations for a comprehensive survey slated for the 2026-27 financial year.

The initiative specifically targets children who have either dropped out of school or have remained absent for extended periods, seeking to facilitate their seamless return to formal learning. The ultimate goal is to mainstream these children back into educational institutions across Assam.

Under this ambitious plan, District Quality Managers and Education Volunteers from Samagra Shiksha Assam will conduct an extensive statewide survey. This crucial identification phase is scheduled to take place from August 20 to September 23, 2026, engaging a dedicated team of 2,862 surveyors.

Once identified, children requiring tailored educational support will be guided towards various resources. These include residential and non-residential Special Training Centres (STCs), designed to provide focused assistance. Additionally, the Open School system will be leveraged as a flexible option to ensure continuity in their academic journey wherever appropriate. The 'Shiksha Yatra' underscores the state's commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind, offering renewed opportunities for learning and growth to those previously outside the formal education system.
