Assam education minister Ranoj Pegua said that the system of ‘stand’ will be removed from this year’s HSLC and HS examinations.

Digital Desk: Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu announced trans-formative reforms that mark a break from traditional assessment methods. "There will be no position in high school educational examinations from now onward. IIT also won't give admission if they get a place in matriculation. Place is not important. In Assam, the place is socially recognized." Dr. Pegu made the announcement while speaking to the media, highlighting his plan to to eliminate the system of class positions in high school exams.

He states that the goal of this modification is to promote a more diverse and collaborative learning environment. Students are encouraged to concentrate on their overall growth rather than competing for rank order as there will be no class positions.

Pegu highlighted the importance of social recognition in Assam, stating, "No educational institution in India or the world recognizes the place."

According to him, the revisions are state-specific and might not be compatible with the system used by educational institutions outside of the state for recognition. According to the minister, students will benefit more from these changes than from continuing with practices that don't have a major impact on their academic or career opportunities.

The elimination of the 'stand' system in this year's Matric and High School examinations reflects a commitment to reevaluate the assessment methods and reduce unnecessary stress for students. Dr. Pegu reiterated, "This system does not help the students additionally for any higher grades or opportunities but also remains a discussion for the families."

With an emphasis on creating a more holistic and inclusive learning environment, putting overall growth ahead of competition, and acknowledging students' diverse potential beyond traditional academic criteria, this announcement represents a major change in Assam's educational system.
