Digital Desk: The Sonai Police Department seized a large quantity of drugs from Kachudaram village in Cachar district on Tuesday. 

Over 150 boxes of soap laced with heroin were seized by Sonai Police in the late hours of Tuesday.

The heroin weighed about half a kilogram, according to sources. The junk's market value is estimated to be in crores of rupees.

Though the authorities were able to seize the entire shipment, they were unable to apprehend the smugglers.

The smugglers fled the scene even before the police arrived, having learned of the raid.

In another instance, a consignment of drugs worth Rs 23 crore was seized by the Assam Police on Monday.

The state police and the CPRF seized 5 kg of brown sugar from a person travelling by bus to Nagaland.

The bus was stopped in the Bokajan area. Sunil Kumar, from the Bihar district of Siwan, was identified as the accused.

Previously, in another case, huge quantities of narcotic substances were recovered during a joint raid led by the CRPF and Nagaon Police. During the raids, officials say they seized up to 15 boxes of illegal drugs.

Officials detained six people, including a woman, during the operation in Nagaon's Juria. Anarul Hussain, Inamul Haque, Sahidul Islam, Saiful Islam, Mainuddin, and Johora Khatun were among those apprehended.

Moreover, along with the major drug bust in Nagaon, officials also recovered Rs 5 lakhs in cash, three motorcycles and an e-rickshaw.
