A multiple-time national gold medallist, he had represented both the state and the Assam Police in several prestigious competitions
Digital Desk: Assam Police constable and national-level arm wrestler Amlanjit Borthakur died in a tragic road accident at Raha early on Monday, 24th November, sending shockwaves through both the police fraternity and the sporting community. According to reports, Borthakur was rushed to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital immediately after the accident, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Borthakur was regarded as one of Assam’s most accomplished arm wrestlers. He had won multiple gold medals at national level, who had represented the state and the Assam Police in various high profile events. He scored his major accomplishment during the world police and fire games of 2025 whereby he won a gold medal in right-hand division and a silver medal in the left-hand division, , earning widespread recognition for Assam on the global stage.
The news of his sudden death has left the Assam Police deeply saddened. In an official condolence message, the department described him as “a young life built on grit and quiet strength” and expressed profound grief over the loss of one of their brightest talents. “He had taken Assam to the international arena with his achievements. The Assam Police family stands in deep mourning and extends heartfelt condolences to his loved ones in this hour of grief,” the statement read.
His untimely death is a big loss to the sporting fraternity in Assam as well as the Assam police force.
