Assam is gearing up for the commencement of its technology-driven Census 2027, with the crucial self-enumeration phase slated to begin from August 2 across the state. This marks a significant step towards a modern, digital population count, as announced by the Directorate of Census Operations.
However, the exercise will face a temporary delay in two districts, Charaideo and Sivasagar, where prevailing flood conditions necessitate a postponement. The decision was made to ensure the accuracy and smooth conduct of the census once the situation normalizes in these affected areas.
During a recent press conference in Guwahati, officials from the Directorate of Census Operations outlined the detailed schedule for the upcoming census. The entire process will be conducted in two distinct phases. The initial phase, focusing on self-enumeration, will run from August 2 to August 16. During this period, residents will have the convenience of submitting their demographic details online through a dedicated Census portal or via a smartphone application.
Following the self-enumeration, the second phase, known as the Housing Census, will take place from August 17 to September 15. During this period, trained enumerators will visit households to collect comprehensive information pertaining to housing structures, household assets, and various basic amenities available to residents.
Authorities have emphasized that all information gathered during the census will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Measures are in place to ensure that the collected data is securely stored at the National Data Centre, safeguarding individual privacy. The Census in Assam is set to cover a vast geographical area, encompassing 35 districts, 166 sub-districts, and a total of 26,236 villages, reflecting the state's diverse demographic landscape.
