  • The southwest monsoon has intensified across vast swathes of India, unleashing floods and landslides that have ravaged states like Kerala, Odisha, and Assam, with the meteorological department forecasting continued heavy rainfall

The southwest monsoon has intensified its grip over large parts of India, leaving a trail of destruction across multiple states. Assam, Kerala, and Odisha are currently battling severe flooding, while several other regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Andhra Pradesh, remain on high for potential flash floods and landslides in the coming days.

Reports indicate that hundreds of villages have been inundated, affecting lakhs of people and claiming multiple lives as incessant rainfall has caused rivers to swell precariously. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that the active monsoon phase is expected to persist, prompting state authorities to escalate rescue and evacuation operations nationwide.

Kerala is among the worst-hit states, grappling with widespread flooding and devastating landslides. At least five fatalities were reported on Saturday alone due to rain-related incidents, with landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts burying homes and claiming lives. Districts such as Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Kannur have also experienced significant flooding, compounding the state's woes.

As the monsoon rages, local administrations are working tirelessly to provide relief and ensure the safety of residents in affected areas. The ongoing heavy downpour underscores the critical need for continued vigilance and preparedness across all vulnerable regions as the nation braces for further monsoon activity.
