The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) has strongly appealed to the Director of Elementary Education (DEE), Assam, to abandon the government's recent directive concerning the salary payment mechanism for SRD-regularised teachers. The association specifically challenged the move to disburse salaries through the SNA-SPARSH module, utilizing the State Top-Up Fund, arguing it contradicts the terms of their regularisation.
ASPTA officials highlighted that these teachers were previously integrated into the state's regular teaching cadre, moving them beyond the Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) scheme. Their original appointment letters, the association emphasized, explicitly stipulate that their remuneration is to be drawn from the State Budget. The proposed shift, which would affect approximately 15,029 teachers, represents a departure from this established understanding.
The teachers' body insists that continuing the existing system of salary disbursement via the State Treasury is crucial, aligning their payment process with that of other permanent government teachers. They argue that reverting to a scheme-based salary mechanism, such as SNA-SPARSH, undermines the very essence of their regularisation and could set an undesirable precedent.
ASPTA has issued a stern warning that should the state government proceed with implementing this change in the salary payment system, the affected teachers will be left with no option but to launch widespread protests and take to the streets to voice their grievances. The association remains firm in its demand for equitable treatment and adherence to the conditions of their regularisation.
