Guwahati: On Wednesday, Assam reported its first two cases of Omicron. Rohan Das, a 13-year-old boy and Mohammed Mamood Hussain, has been infected with the Omicron strain.
Rohan Das family, who lives in Mumbai for professional reasons, travelled to Meghalaya, where he was found to be positive for the new covid variant.
As per reports, they lived in a rented property in Moirakusi, Sonapur, after the strain was detected in Rohan’s body.
However, when the health department authorities and Sonapur police visited the house after the case was discovered, the patient had run away from the rented house.
Currently, the police are looking for Rohan.
On the other hand, Mohammed Mamood Hussain, a returnee from Saudi Arabia, was tested positive for the new covid variant in Jorhat.
Meanwhile, Assam Health Minister Keshav Mahanta addressed a press conference today at the National Health Mission office on the state’s latest covid situation and vaccination.
The Minister said, “The number of covid cases in the state has increased since January 1. The final decision for the upcoming Bhogali Bihu will be taken after a meeting with Assam CM tomorrow.”
Further, the Minister asserted that 2613 oxygen beds had been kept ready. At GMCH, 128 cabins for covid patients and 200 covid beds in MMCH.
“Every medical college and district deputy commissioner has been ordered to make ready all the previous covid hospitals for an emergency.” he said.
Stressing about the government’s decision for lockdown, the Minister said that the government is not in favour of lockdown even if infection increases. The vaccine process for 15-18 years will be completed by February, already, 10 lakh testing kits have been ordered and 5 Lakhs are in stock.
According to official reports, 1598 samples were sent to Kolkata for the test, but all the reports didnt reach Assam until now.
Guwahati saw more than double the covid-19 cases on Monday. The number of registered cases reached 164 compared to 78 cases on the last day. Moreover, the COVID 19 condition in Assam touched a figure of 351 cases on Monday, taking the overall positivity rate to 0.96%.
On the other hand, 830 covid cases have been detected in the last ten days. At Kamrup (M) 156, Jorhat 105 and Hojai 50, covid cases were reported.
