The incident took place after the ULFA-Independent and the NSCN-Yung K's Aung group demanded a shutdown in five northeastern states on Independence Day, calling the celebrations "fake."
Digital Desk: On Tuesday, suspected militants and Assam Rifles personnel exchanged fire in the Dan Pangsha area along the India-Myanmar border. So far, no casualties have been reported in the incident, according to Hiazu Meru, Deputy Commissioner of the Noklak district.
This comes just hours after an Assam Rifles officer was injured in Arunachal Pradesh after suspected militants opened fire on paramilitary troops from across the India-Myanmar border. The incident occurred near Pangsau Pass when insurgents opened fire on an Assam Rifles patrolling team.
"An incident of firing on Assam Rifles troops by militant groups from across the Indo-Myanmar border occurred early this morning in the general area of Tirap and Changlang district," said Lt Col AS Walia, Defence Spokesperson based in Tezpur.
He stated that the Assam Rifles troops were conducting increased patrolling activities in anticipation of increased vigilance for Independence Day. "A junior commissioned officer suffered a hand injury," the spokesman added.
On August 6, the ULFA-Independent and the Yung Aung faction of the NSCN-K called for a shutdown on Independence Day in five northeastern states, calling the celebrations "fake."
They declared a shutdown from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 15. Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Meghalaya are among the states involved.
Security has been increased, particularly along the Indo-Myanmar border, in response to the militants' call for a boycott.
