When contacted, a senior Karbi Anglong district police official confirmed to PTI that the operation lasted for a long time.

Digital Desk: A senior officer reported on Wednesday that an alleged militant was injured in a gunfight with the police and six others were nabbed in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The alleged militants belonged to a recently founded organisation named the National Socialist Council of Karbi Anglong, according to Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Gyanendra Pratap Singh.

"Seven boys from Karbi Anglong got together, bought three pistols & started a new organisation… Six have been picked up," he said in a tweet.

Singh said that Pabitra Teron, the group's leader, had been injured during a shootout with police, but he withheld other information, such as the time and location of the incident.

Since the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, took power in May 2021, at least 55 people have been killed and 142 injured in police actions as the suspects allegedly tried to escape arrest or attacked the officers
