Assam's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, filed the complaint against Sisodia.

The Assam government allegedly gave contracts to Sarma's wife's businesses and his son's business partner to supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits at prices above market rates during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader claimed in a press conference a few months ago.

Sarma had previously appeared before Kamrup District and Sessions Judge Court on August 5 in relation to the criminal defamation charge brought against Sisodia.

It is to be noted that CM Sarma had appeared in front of the court for the first deposition as the case's complainant.
